Ask the younger deckhands to help. I'm sure they will be happy to help.

There’s always a gang of Red Shirts around on those days. Get Billy or one of the guys to help with the heavy lifting. Tip whatever you would tip a bellhop, checking into a nice hotel.

I'll take this a step further. I am one of those (supremely annoying) people who always wants to know why. On a long range trip I am always curious about where we're going, but the captain will tell us when (and what) he thinks we should know.

As for the why, I figure that whatever he decides, he has a reason for it. If he feels like telling me the reason, of course I'm interested! But I won't ask. For me, all I need to know is that he decided. That's pretty much what we pay him to do, and I will always give the captain the benefit of the doubt.

When we get there, he'll tell us what to do, and most likely the best way to do it.

Pete my back went out last year a couple days before my 12 day in Dec. my Chiropractor sold me a portable electric shock machine like them and physical therapists use. I had that thing on my back every chance I could on the ride down and it saved my trip. Between that and laying on the deck in the bow and stretching for an hour I was able to fish and have a good trip. Icy hot pads will help as well while your on deck

Machine cost about $100.00 bucks but was well worth it

Now I don't hang Christmas lights before my trips just to be safe

I’m on the tens machine right now, taking muscle relaxers, foam roller and limiting sitting. After four tough days I’m finally seeing improvement. I haven’t had a back episode in years, 11 days should be good to go.

Pete, let the office know what bunk you need to accomodate the injury to the back...easier to make a change now, than at sign in...don't think you are gonna want the top bunk ;)

We all have our own stateroom on this trip, so no problem there.
