The good people at Phenix believe my angler high sticked the rod causing the failure. They did the right thing nonetheless, and replaced the blank without charge.

I'd agree, I had a fish snap my Shadowstalker last weekend when it hopped off of the deck of a kayak with a jig in its mouth and my rod nearly vertical in a rod holder. Exact same clean, crisp snap as you describe, about 8" from the tip. Second time I've snapped this particular model. First time was a defective blank that snapped mid cast. No longer have a ton of confidence in these rods being used for anything but calicos and other small game. I am going back to wrapping my own Rainshadow sticks.
