It's been a while since I have posted a report here. I've had a lot of ups and downs this year working on opening a business, moving, new job, and my brother passing away. Fishing has been something that I needed to do for a while. It had probably been about 8-9 months since I had been on the water. Life has been a journey this year and I never expected to be where I am today. But hey I'm more grateful then ever to be where I am in life and be able to experience the things I have thus far from ups to downs.
    Onto the fishing.

    6/2-3/18 Operation Ghost Kill:

    Area fished:
Dana point area out in the local kelp
    Weather & Conditions:
Flat 2-3 knots throughout the trip with a 1-2ft swell and a down hill current moon was 3 days after full.

A good buddy of mine Jeff had told me he wanted to fish soon. With that I looked at my schedule and figured out when the best time would be. We had decided that Saturday-Sunday would be best. I had looked at all the apps saw the weather and conditions and was stoked. We got on the water Saturday around 2pm with one mission to catch the infamous ghost. I had gotten one the year before that was 41lbs so the goal was to join the 50lb club.

First thing we did was run out to the kelp and started making bait. We didn't buy anything all made out there. At first it was non stop Spanish macs. At the last hour before dark the greens had rolled in and we loaded the tank.

We set up on the spot that was in the recommended area that we got from a buddy.
At this point it was around 7:45pm and we put out the rigs two in front two in the back. The wait began it went on for a long time a lot of false calls with the kelp getting caught and getting us all fired up. The big man passed out and I stayed up watching the rigs making sure we didn't miss anything (lots of kelp calls and freezing my legs off) we were a little uncertain with our positioning but the captain was convinced that we had the perfect spot ( witch we did). Changing baits every couples hours moving the rigs around making sure they were set in the right areas. At around 4:45am on the rods kept clicking and the kelp had it again but I was so cold I just waited. Then it happened out of know where my new setup went full speed clicker screaming. We knew it was time and popped up and put the pain on this fish instantly. Made sure to keep pressure the whole time so he wouldn't have a chance to shake us in the kelp. At one point he did get in the kelp and I was little nervous to really pull but I did and out he came. After about 10-15min of pure adrenaline this donkey comes up barely hooked in the side of his mouth. Gaff was sunk and in he came followed by some hoots and hollering of joy.
Finally mission accomplished this fish came out at 50.2 pounds and it felt great still riding the high and finally can say I've got 50lb mark checked for the ghost next match is the 60lb some day.

    Gear used:
6480H with a penn fathom 40NLD2 with 80lb spectra to 60lb floro. Green back Mac suspended at 30ft

Again thank you Jeff for the invite your been a good friend can’t wait to go slay again brother!

All in all attitude of gratitude life is a journey the unexpected can always happen so just be in the moment and enjoy it y'all!

That's what it's all about! Congrats on an amazing fish. Good luck in your business and my sincere condolences about your brother. I'm taking a friend next weekend who lost his brother this past winter. Hope we can get one of our own.
