image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg Buddy boated with my girlfriends dad on Friday. Me in my 17ft mako along with my roommate and he was on his 17ft aqua sport with a friend. 2 boats with four of us total. Got the mission bay around 5:15 and got to the bait receiver around 5:30. Half scoop of medium sized macks for us, full scoop for my girlfirends dad. I fished La Jolla for yellowtail Thursday evening for nada and had a bunch of bait left over so I kept it and before we even left the harbor we had a bucket full of chunk. Headed a little northwest of mission bay ending up at a paddy about 7 miles straight west of la Jolla just before 7am. Our buddy boat picked up two rat dodos right off the bat and we got nothing. Good way to start the morning with the skunk off between the two of us. Started marking good after about 5 minutes of nothing and let a couple chunks fly. Not much longer all hell broke loose. Our buddy boat hooked into a tuna right after the chunks went flying, then my roommate did, then my girlfriends dad did, and lastly I did. All back to back. We had quads going on the first stop of the day. This proceeded to happen for the next two hours. Every bait that hit the water was instantly devoured. My roommate and I did not have a bait swim for more then 20 seconds without getting eaten for 2 hours straight. At one point I threw out a couple pieces of chunk and see tuna under the boat banging their heads together to get them, so I threw one on a hook and had 5 tuna fighting to eat it. Pretty much as wide open as it gets. After 2 hours we had our fill and had 25+ fish between the two boat so we called out the numbers and in 10 minutes there were 5 other boats that showed up. Everyone who showed up got hooked up. Left the fish biting along with 11 boats total that ended up showing up. It 'twas a good day.

Way to go, Brian, that is awesome! It's been since the '98 El Nino since I've been in a yellowfin bite that wide open. Hopefully this year.... Thank you for the report and photos!

What is a daisy duke? If you mean people that know how to preserve quality tuna then ok.

Don't forget the flip side. If you ever break up with the girl friend you'll still have a good fishing partner. Sometimes those are harder to find .

Great report and good on you for calling in other boats. Mission bay has had some great bait lately! Those macs have been perfect
