What a beautiful day on the water today! Flat seas, light wind, sunny & warm (for December) and the bass were hungry. Left San Pedro at 7:30 heading for PV. About a mile out of Angel's Gate I stopped at a clump of lobster pots and threw a Kman plastic. First and second casts were calicos. I never made it to PV, never even used my GPS waypoints. Just drifted around the close-in lobster pots for many bass, a few reds, and a bunch of macs. Off the water at 2pm. The bass were puking up squid, sometimes big squid. I lost count, too much action and it was just me and Roddy. Total count was easily 30, 50 if you count the macs. Bass were small, the largest was maybe 2lb. Most were caught on plastics, a few bass and most macs on a Magic Metal jig, and a couple bass on chunks of puked-up squid. Kman red flake 4" did the trick as usual, but the hot setup today was a 1/0 dropshot rig with a Zoom Super Fluke Jr. White Ice. Must be the squid color? A photo is attached. There was action everywhere on the bottom, see the sonar image below. There were boils and birds everywhere too. All within 2 miles of Angel's Gate And I only used 3 gallons of gas, a PB.
