I have an mxj from about 2007 and after many fish and much abuse the handle is binding up up and till this point some oil would bring it back but it now needs replacement and I would like to put a newer rubber handle on it. I was going to swap a handle from another avet to check but realized it's my only single speed.
So my question is can I buy a newer style handle and install with no issue?
Also is it normal to have to replace clickers every season love my reels but always thought this was odd.

Handle or just the knob. If the knob, I have done a couple with aftermarket replacements. They work well.
Handle problems would be interior of reel.

It's definitely just the knob the reel itself works fine.

You shouldn't have to replace the clicker every year, but you might need to if you leave it on all the time -- when you are retrieve, a fish is running, etc. The clicker is a line out **alarm** meant only to signal a strike, not to be left on all them time.

I bought a late model handle for my old JX from the Avet factory not sure if they still make them it was the old straight type.

I use then for trolling Rapalas and slow trolling live bait with the clicker on.
I disengage the clicker as soon as it's out of the rod holder but the clicker springs always seems to wear out

Well I borrowed a newer sx single speed and the handles spline is different but they don't have a mx to try. I guess I'll get avet on the phone
