I bought a brand new Okuma Makaira 10ii SEA in January 2021, finally got to use it last week. I fished it for 2 days, no bites, no fish. Then whatever controls the clicker on vs. off function broke. I have emailed [email protected] as instructed on the website, twice, and have heard nothing back. The whole reason I bought the reel is for a fast approaching June trip, and it's not looking good that the reel will be fixed in time.

Has anyone else had a problem with a complete lack of response from Okuma?

Had a good response from them about factory warranty previously. But this was before covid, not sure how many employees they are running with right now. Can't remember the name but there was also an okuma employee on here(BD) and he was super quick to respond. If you search around you will probably find him.

If it's just the clicker that's a pretty easy fix. Just take off the side plate and reassemble the clicker based on the schematic. The only parts that could pop off are the 2 springs and those are easy to manage.

If you did manage to contact Okuma, you would either have to take the reel apart yourself anyway so you can tell them what part you need which will take a week or 2, or you will have to send it back to them which will take a month or longer due to all the covid restrictions limiting them.

Definitely not free from what I could remember. I don't know of any place that fixes Okuma reel for free under warranty besides Okuma.
Oh. Since Intrepid fan suggested "Just send it to Ken's tackle in Oceanside." I assume he thought they did.
Not sure then why you would send a reel under warranty to a place that actually charges to fix it if the factory fixes it for no cost.....?

If the reel needs service and Okuma is not doing service work are you just not going to use it? Are you too cheap to spend $100 bucks to fix a reel that you will use multiple times on a $500 to $5.000 fishing trip?

If it's just the clicker, open it up and see what the issue is yourself. It's probably just one of the two springs has slipped.

Or just use it on your next trip, it's not like the clicker is all that important unless you're trolling with it.

This is an OP error. Just emailing them will not do anything. OP needs to submit a ticket for repair and ship it out. All of my reels I've shipped to them comes back to my front door in 2-3 weeks, including a recent one about a month ago.

Call (909) 923-2828. I submitted a ticket and had no action on it for two weeks. Called and had the replacement part shipped for free that day. It showed up about a week later.

The website says to email to [email protected] for help, which I did explaining the issue. No response.

The click pawl spring is broken, I can replace, just not sure I can get the part in time for an upcoming trip. Disappointing it happened on brand new reel.

If you get the measurements you could find 2 springs similarly sized at home depot and use them just for that trip. It might be quieter or louder than the stock clicker but it will work.
It's not that kind of spring, hard to describe. More of a bent piece of spring steel. But I did call Okuma at the number someone above gave me, they are sticking one in the mail and it may get here in time. Fingers crossed.
