I hate to be the guy that brings 7 rods on a day trip but the landing recommended up to 100# set ups. I booked the trip for the Coronado’s thinking 3 rigs max but now plans have changed and they are going offshore. I guess I’ll list what I’m tying up....

Calstar 270H8/Trinidad 16 for #25
SS D8/ Trinidad 16 for #30
700h/JX for #40
700h/JX raptor for #50
Gg90j/Trinidad 20 jig stick #50
770h/HX raptor for #80
Phenix hax720 X3H/ Mak 20 for #100

Seems like too much to me. What do you think with the conditions forecasted for next week?

I think you're set! I have a 4-Day next week on Shogun, I'm bringing 8 rigs:
  1. Tilefish Jr./Torque 25 nld2 for 30# flyline
  2. UC 76 HP/Fathom 30/2 for 40# (light jig/schoolie BFT)
  3. Terminator/Torque 30 for 40# flyline/sinker rig
  4. Predator/Fathom 40 nld2 for 60# jig
  5. GP Terminator/Fathom 40 nld2 for 60# flyline/sinker rig
  6. Centaur/Mak 16 SEa for 80# sinker rig/light flat fall rig
  7. Viper/Mak 20 SEa for 100# night flat falls
  8. UC Zeus 3/Fathom 25 nld2 for speed/knife jigs
As has been said many times, better to have it/not need it, than need it/not have it. Shogun has plenty of tackle/rod storage. Can't wait!

I'll be riding the San Diego on Tues.
Looks like it's a mixed bag. Gotta come prepared.

Went out Tuesday on the Liberty and took 6 combos. When the big fish bit, I was one of the only ones that brought a 60lb setup and was the first to bring in a 130+lb tuna. We lost quite a few because people only had 40lb gear and the fight lasted way too long. Two were lost literally inches from being gaffed due eventually being bitten through. Take everything, there were three sizes we saw. There were schools of 100+lb tunas, schools of 50-70lb tunas, and schools with all 20-30lb tuna. I used every rod and reel I brought, but the 60lb gear did the most work. Listen to the crew and go heavy when they tell you to.
