Hit the ocean beach this weekend. Great weather and a small swell. Fished the incoming tide. Two hook rig with a strip of squid and a 3oz triangle weight. Caught these three red tailed surf perch in about 20 mins, then my waders filled with water so the fun was over. I could of easily caught a limit.

Yes, never turn your back to re-bait...seriously. Everyone I know that turns their back has gotten Maytagged at some point. A kayaking PFD is good insurance, and still lets you cast well.

And watch those dorsal spines if you keep your catch in a bag on your hip...I gained a fish allergy due to them. Bummer for a guy who likes to fish.

Nice catch. How do you all like to cook your Surf Perch? Fried, pan seared? I've caught and released them before while just messing around with the fly rod but never have kept any of them. Are they similar to Rockfish? Just curious.

I was camping up at Pacific beach. Same thing. Got a couple each day. Great fish tacos.
