Pat, Could not agree more! Just touring the USS Arizona and thinking about everything that happened and the sacrifices that were made puts a lot of things into perspective. I have been on the USS Arizona in the morning for the flag raising and after dark and it makes you stop and think. They were the greatest generation!!

Just curious. So many pictures and videos show Hawaiian fishing being done with the rods left in the rod holder while being brought in. Are these people sportfishing or are they actually fishing commercially?

Lou, I'll try, though certainly not the most qualified. Let's set the stage; typically bumpy (sloppy) water, most boats low gunwales (below the knee), trolling 5-7 rods looking for action, the chance of multiple strikes exists (summer time) multiple rods go off with 100plus# ahis, rods are long butt boat rods, reels 80's to 130's. With the description above think what other options exists? You are not going to p/u a 130 on a boat rod and do anything with it, other than potentially drop it when the boat heaves. With a fish on, the rod is a good stabilizer in sloppy water, it's nice to have some stout tackle should you have that multiple ahi strike or that grander on the line. Some will put the reel in free spool should they hook a marlin (hoping it comes off), because if boated it will end your day to properly care for it (use all the ice and most likely head in), remember there is a market for marlin here. Most maintain a Commercial License, so I guess if selling fish then it would be considered commercial, most just sell to defer some costs of the passion. Hope this helps you understand what you see on line. Cheers Pat
