    Hello,
I am looking to book a trip for 2015 to either Nuevo Vallarta or Loreto. My goal is to catch tuna from the 30 to 80 pound class and fill up the freezer. I always wanted to try my luck at the big yellow tails in the spring in Loreto, but a chance at nice yellow fin sounds tempting.

    Where you guys recommend?

Also, what is the best time of the year for Nuevo Vallarta?

    Thank you in advance.

If you are targeting tuna, then PV is your place. Just got back last night (feb-3) from fishing on the Maximus. Fishing was off, yet we managed to catch 15 or so tuna in excess of 100 pounds.

Largest went 206. Maximus considers 140 pound class tuna as schoolie tuna. There is also the osuna bros and other outfits to fit your budget.

Wow.... "The Fishing was off" I can't imagine what it would be like if it was on. Sounds like you took home some meat. How many guys were on the boat? Did you target any dorado or wahoo?

    Thank you,

There were 10 Angler's on the boat and a crew of 5. We caught a dorado and they do on occasion catch wahoo. The trip before us plugged the boat.

Poncherello said it best!!! Either boat you can't go wrong.
Seems like late fall or after the holidays is prime time.
Although I think the tuna are out there year round, just not the numbers like you see
    in the fall time.

Thanks guys for the response. Would you recommend taking 12 hour trips on something the Osuna Bros. offer your would you recommend the 2.5 day trip on the Maximus?

The 12 hour trip typicallyorishas el banco or corbetenia. Possibly both areas if they run and gun. I'm sure one of the boat operators can give exact details.

Maximus fishes about 65-70 miles from PV so a 12 hour trip can't take you that far. While at Fred Hall, I stopped by Maximus, and they had individual open party slots available.

I think the 12 hour boats charge $1200 for the boat per day. If you have a group of 4 guys maybe you can charter the osunas for a 2 dayer. That may be the ticket financially if you divide the trip by the amount in your party. Keep in mind that cows can be caught at el banco or corbetenia but there maybe a lot of boat pressure from other charters.

There were only 2 other boats (big yacht fishers) where we fished 70 miles out.

    I hope this info helps.

Thank you everybody for the responses. Has anybody fished out of Nayarit (punta de Mita)? The point seems like it would save on time to the tuna grounds.

    Thank you,
