disclaimer, i can't read the article because it's blocked by my work's firewall. but, i'm going to stick my nose out anyways (i'm sure i'll regret it).

the fact that they have this info does not surprise me one bit. they have this info becase they run a MASSIVE marketing campaign. I get shit in the mail every week from them and know I would be getting phone calls if i was dumb enough to give them my number.

people sign up for the nra because they own guns. nra sends you stuff in the mail for donations, alerts, etc. and rightfully so, they are protecting our rights. so should it not be obvious there is going to be a database to drive this effort?

It's all kind of like AARP....they hound folks near 50 and many folks thing AARP is some kind of "protector" or older folks lives...they sell insurance!! Plain and simple they gather names and info...sell insurance and use their size and clout to lobby in Washington (not a Conservative lobby at all)....I was a long time member of the NRA starting back in the 60's...They talk a good fight and some of the work is needed but I'm afraid the motives are about internal power like all big organizations..I'm off all the mailing lists...

I quit my membership as soon as I stopped shooting competetively. Back then I assumed they were fighting for rights, but then I discovered otherwise.

NRA doesn't do JACK for California, and 10%+ of NRA membership is from CA. AFAIC, they are just another cubicle farm full of suits full of themselves inside the Beltway. They do a real fine job of keeping the Virginia tidewater and DC suburb gun rights in good order, though. On the nationwide membership's dime. One click to the right of useless.

    I still send them money.

Everyone tracks your info. You think the State won't cross reference their hunting license database to determine where the guns are? What about CC and debit purchases of ammo or camo....

We are all being watched and damn, just found a pinhole in my tinfoil cap lol.

I think the point here is that the NRA has been caught(apparently) doing exactly what they purportedly oppose. The old say one thing, do another, send me a check. or maybe I've missed the point,,,,,,,,again....

Most guns aren't registered so it's pretty much a useless DB unless you want to market to the subjects. They can guess you might own a gun but they can't tell for sure unless U live in a State that makes you register shit. I got buddies with full on arsenals that live in States the govt could give a crap. The NRA may have them listed as an owner but then my cuz who likes to go to gun ranges doesn't own a gun and she is probably on the same dumb list. 330 million guns. I like that thought.

They'd have more use forcing ATT to hand over their marketing lists of what people watch than the NRA db.

NRA has a job to sell firearms training and safety, and collect money to ensure firearms laws are acceptable to them. I used to get firearms insurance adds, never used em, I figured it was a way to register the firearm. Folks who register with an insurance company gotta give the info, same as registration. Do ya really believe folks can't be bought out, or forced to give up the info? Lots of folks nowdays have firearms cause they are paranoid of such stuff.
