A number of years ago had caught 2 large halibut inside South Island. Was anchored with the two hanging over side on a rope. Like trout at a lake on stringer. Was sitting on gunwale and saw big shadow coming up. Grabbed rope and pulled up fast but not fast enough. Sea Wolf managed to grab one and pull one off. Later, when motoring off to the Rockpile, one followed us for a couple of miles, jumping along and following in our wake. Like our pet.

You must be pretty damn young and strong Ron, at 250 pounds and down in the water, getting that guy up was no small thing. It also sounds like the kind of deal where you wake up the next day--and no damn well why your back is hurting like hell. Glad you are BOTH OK---come home safe, that's the bottom line.

I'll be thinking of this post the next time I'm holding up a fish. I think I'll stand away from the edge.

Great story. Those things are pretty brazen, wild animals that will keep pushing the limits until they find them.

If we were in your boat we would have had a GoPro vid from three different angles.

Pretty hard to take pictures as I'm trying to keep my buddy from drowning - just sayin'...

It was pretty funny afterwards, although he wasn't laughing much :idiot:

Time to add some Go Pros to the boat! Some of my best footage is when we get a bite!
