Is it just me or are all of the bunks on today's sportboats a serious bummer. I'm all for having a place to sleep. I love fishing, but WTF? All of these boats should be required to have staterooms with double wides, 42" screens minimum, and climate control. So dumb. The quality of sleep is waning throughout the night when #8, 11, and 12 snore and fart constantly. How has this been considered appropriate all these years? All sleeping accommodations should be in luxury 1 or 2 person staterooms. Shared sleeping quarters stacked 3 high is not okay.

I thought of fishing off a cruise liner with the luxury staterooms, but then I could not figure out how to stop the ship when I have a "fishon!" or a gaff long enough to reach the water from the Lido deck!:deadhorse:deadhorse:deadhorse:imdumb::imdumb: Bummer!

The Intrepid is everything you asked for plus a little, I mean a lot. And the Independence has the same without thermostats in every stateroom.

You have many of your wishes granted on the half-dozen big luxury sportfishers that mostly fish long range. Just like private executive jets, but on the water. And just like on the executive jets, you pay the big bucks or you don't fly.

The vast majority of the fleet was built decades ago, and a lot of the designers, builders and operators were ex-Navy men. The Navy concentrates on medium-sized guys, and builds to their size requirements. I went through the USS Iowa up in San Pedro, and spent the whole tour bent over so that I wouldn't smack my head. At 6'7" I was in serious danger.

As time goes on and little by little the fleet gets replaced, things get better for the larger dimensions of the current population. Just like wooden hulls are going away. Now if I could just get more of the fleet to make the galley tables just a couple of inches narrower, it would make dinner time so much more comfortable!

You get what you pay for. Spring for the bigger boats. A lot more comfy.

Obviously, it would cost more to provide those amenities, and who knows whether there is enough demand to justify that cost. But the good thing about America is if you are right, you can build a better mouse trap and get rich. Or buy your own boat.
