I run Penn 30 Visx 150 PP braid to a FG knot 18 wraps minimum. Then 120 Fluorocarbon top shot to a 250# swivel connected to a Hawaiian clip then leader and/or right to the jig. The length of the top shot is about 120 feet or enough to cover the spool. Mainly because if you get any line rub on the boat with braid it's all over. Also you have running room to cut off any frayed or tangled line more then once. As for leader to the Madmacs. Tying right to the lure makes for less visible stuff for the fish to see. But plastic line can be bitten through by a tuna or shark. It's a trade off. Some place in the set up you should have a swivel thought MM's don't spin so you can get away without one. That is my two cents.
