IMG_2032.JPG Hay guys, went to Dana Pt today to try for some Hali's, weather was nice, calm with just a small breeze. Found several halibut in 90' of water. General area was outside San Clemente, serval other boats drifting mostly deeper water. Caught five Halibut ball bouncing, three were just legal so they were released to grow. The two in the picture went 20 & 14#s. Didn't get any bait , just hoochies draging th bottom.

Thanks for the report. You should make a video of how you set up and troll the bounce ball technique.

Here is the basic items used. Three feet to dodger, 18" to hoochie, 24" to cannon ball sinker.

How do you prevent it from wrapping around itself? I drop it down slow and I still get it all jacked up!

Try making the leader for your weight shorter. Like 12” or less. When i fish a 3 way rig i like to keep the leader for the weight pretty short. Still gives the bait or lure plenty of action. Way less tangles.

I typically use 2 lb cannon ball sinker. But the weight really depends on depth, speed of boat, and main line. I use either 50 or 80 spectra for the main line mostly because when I snag bottom I can get my gear back most of the time. If I am fishing 60 feet or less I would use 1 1/2 lb weight. My seed is between 1 1/2 to 2 mph on my GPS. A lot of guys either tow a couple buckets or use trolling bags on each side of their boat to slow them down. On my Skipjack 24, I use two 48" trolling bags. On my Whaler Dauntless 15 with a 70 HP four stroke I can idle down to 650 rpm to get 1.5 mph.

    Hope this helps,
    Frank

Drop the rig while under way slowly, learned that from "Bankrobber" and "Bigdrum"
