My son and I planned on fishing the Redondo bonito bite this morn, but after reports of the Pacific Carnage tanked with squid at Avalon, we changed our game plan and crossed the channel with some sardines from Nachos as insurance. Made the crossing in 50mins with awesome water conditions. Unfortunately, no squid boats anywhere and we couldn’t raise the Carnage on the radio or phone. So much for the candy bait plan .

We then ran up to the isthmus and caught a few smaller sized bonitos on slow trolled sardines. Also had a decent pick on the calicos at Johnson Rock on fly lined sardines. Definitely on the slower side for us.

Even though the fishing wasn’t great, the weather was phenomenal, the beers were cold, Zac Brown filled the air with Catalina in the background all while spending quality time with my son. Great day!

Just as a note, when we were about half way back to Huntington Harbor around 130pm, we saw a thick fog bank starting to take over the island and we heard radio chatter that it was pretty thick. Also had a friend who reported great calico bass and bonito fishing at Rocky Point and Lunada Bay. A couple guys chatting on radio about yellowtail at Rocky Point, but no confirmation of that.

Fish have tails, boats have motors. They move.
Nice change of gears with the calls.

I was out there too! And I just posted a post almost identical to yours! Lmao.
Like you, the report of the candy changed my plan of staying local too. Didn’t want to deal with the crowds anyways.
    We’ll get them next time!

I was talking to Mark Wisch yesterday he said there were good signs of squid and he was headed over to try to make his own last night.

Squid boats may have moved around back to tank up after selling out. Did you check the usual haunts: Vs, Ben Weston's, Cape Cortez, West Cove?

Better luck next time and thanks for posting!
