And the DEABut if you drive 8 hours to get to the boat, don’t cut the heads/tails off the fish in the parking lot so you can fit them in your cooler to drive home. Many here on BD will rat you out to the cops and try to get you arrested - so now you have to book a hotel room for a few days and wait for the processor to get around to cutting your fish for you.
There is the Shelter Island boat ramp. A very long time ago I used to process fish over there and they were set up with cutting tables. Been a long time since I have been there. But if you drive 8 hours to get to the boat, don’t cut the heads/tails off the fish in the parking lot so you can fit them in your cooler to drive home. How is it illegal to cut the heads and tails off? Disposal? But if you drive 8 hours to get to the boat, don’t cut the heads/tails off the fish in the parking lot so you can fit them in your cooler to drive home. That filleting law is for Mexico. Interesting that Mexican law says that you can process the fish once unloaded from the vessel that the fish is caught. That includes a fish processing vessel.the issue/problem is how to legally dispose of head/tail/guts/backbones .
one can not just put them in someone else's trash can like the dumpsters by the landing. Do believe laws prevent dumping in bays to avoid rutting carcasses and smells.
Another possible issue with cutting off a head or tail or both is if fish species has a minimum length limit. This is like the filleting on a boat rules from fish and game

For California: 27.65.
I love common sense. I always tell my wife I love her for her brains,,,,,both of em!Tried to make same day reservations last summer for this coming October's trip...no go, so it'll be shipped. Means I can drive the wife's car with no ice chests instead of my truck and have 1 less hotel night, which means it'll be about a push cost-wise.

Just curious.Yeah, so now you guys who drive, not only have to pay for processing but also for expensive air freight shipping, get screwed on the processing yield, and you probably won’t see that fish for at least a month. If I was driving, I’d be cutting off heads and tails and gutting on my tailgate in the parking lot, signs on dumpsters and redshirts be damned. But yeah, I’m a little bit “disrespectful” and don’t take it lightly when someone tries to rip me off.
