    Hey all,
I'm normally a bass fisherman but I'm getting into saltwater fishing here. I'm putting together a #20 outfit and want to run straight 20# line. I am a believer in Izorline XXX for my bass fishing duties but use relatively small pound test. I know the heavier the line the more memory it has. I'm just looking for what you guys like for this application. I've been reading about Ande, Triplefish, HiSeas and obviously XXX. Thanks

Xxx is pretty much as supple as it gets, especially in thin stuff like 20. Never have used soft steel but have heard good things about it as well. If you want 0 memory use a non-coated spectra.

All monos have a certain amount of memory and the older the line gets the worse it gets. I don't use mono anymore but when I did I used big game and changed it out every 3 to 12 months depending on the number of trips I took.

Fresh line every time= less memory. It's cheap and just the right way to go.

Thanks guys....bought my new reel and had 20# XXX put on. I put a bunch of line conditioner on it to keep it limber.

Maxima Ultra Green is like that they have few other products that are stiffer but they're harder to find.

A friend of mine put line conditioner on his reels before one trip. He couldn't hook anything while using those outfits. When he switched to one without the line conditioner, he started to catch. Not very scientific, but something to consider.

I'm still not sure what you are trying to accomplish, fresh unconditioned line works perfectly fine. Does the conditioning affect knot strength or abrasion resistance? Seems like any treatment that would soften the line could be more counterproductive than helpful.

Trilene xl has low memory but its not very abrasion resistant. Stren used to make this mono called Magnaflex, not sure if its still made anymore, but it seemed like it allowed the bait to swim a little better. I was fishing it at San Martin years ago, wasnt getting bit on a topshot with yo-zuri hybrid...switched out to magnaflex, and started to get bit.
