It sank so fast you couldnt hit the DSC button? I would think that if it was filled with that much water to drop so quick that you would have noticed something before that
They did not know what that was. They said their phones had no service so they were looking to their phones for help. Their land-based crutch did not work in the ocean.

Likely boat was flooding for some time and nobody realized it. My dock neighbor was out fishing with his buddy last year - 2000 something 36' Luhrs. Nobody noticed the flooding until water was pouring in the transom door. Boat sank a few minutes after they finally realized they had a problem. High water alarm could have saved the day in both cases.

"“It’s like being trapped and helpless because there’s no service, we weren’t able to send a distress signal at all, and the only thing you have out there is hope, hope that somebody finds you, hope that a helicopter flies over,” Aaron Schwartzman, who owned the boat, said to FOX 5 Monday."

“I finally bought the boat of my dreams, or so I thought, for it to sink on me,” Schwartzman said."

I "hope" I never find myself on a boat with people like him. Maybe just the horrific attempt at journalism that article is but he seems pretty clueless.
I look inside my bilge every hour lol.

I look inside my bilge every hour lol.
I have a bilge with a float, then another bilge set about 2 inches higher just in case that one craps out or can’t keep up. I also have a high water alarm. Oh yah and a hand pump. I also check the bilge before I pull off the trailer and every time I exit the bay. Then again every hr or so. Probably overkill but I fish with kids a lot 😁
