I’m Pretty interested to hear what size boat. Guessing it had a full bilge and 5 guys in the stern. Sounds pretty strange to me, but if it was a small overloaded boat who knows
Likely boat was flooding for some time and nobody realized it. My dock neighbor was out fishing with his buddy last year - 2000 something 36' Luhrs. Nobody noticed the flooding until water was pouring in the transom door. Boat sank a few minutes after they finally realized they had a problem. High water alarm could have saved the day in both cases.
"“It’s like being trapped and helpless because there’s no service, we weren’t able to send a distress signal at all, and the only thing you have out there is hope, hope that somebody finds you, hope that a helicopter flies over,” Aaron Schwartzman, who owned the boat, said to FOX 5 Monday."
“I finally bought the boat of my dreams, or so I thought, for it to sink on me,” Schwartzman said."
I "hope" I never find myself on a boat with people like him. Maybe just the horrific attempt at journalism that article is but he seems pretty clueless.
