Anyone have any info on the 5 fisherman saved off the coast yesterday? Seems like the boat might not have been seaworthy if its just falling apart.

That story doesn't make sense. Guy steps on swim platform and the boat sinks immediately? I'm not buying it.
Ya if you have a dry rotted swim step, then being 25 miles offshore shouldn't be an option. Either doesn't make sense or they're stupid... and lucky

I rescued some new boaters 10 miles out...if I remember it was their bait tank draining into their bilge which eventually flooded the boat, took a couple hours of fishing to turtle the boat but eventually it did.... could have been a similar situation

if the rescuers were BDers, they would have respected that it was somebody elses' paddy and gone on to find thier own?

BD'ers would probably have made a few casts before trying to initiate the rescue...

I’m Pretty interested to hear what size boat. Guessing it had a full bilge and 5 guys in the stern. Sounds pretty strange to me, but if it was a small overloaded boat who knows

Likely boat was flooding for some time and nobody realized it. My dock neighbor was out fishing with his buddy last year - 2000 something 36' Luhrs. Nobody noticed the flooding until water was pouring in the transom door. Boat sank a few minutes after they finally realized they had a problem. High water alarm could have saved the day in both cases.

"“It’s like being trapped and helpless because there’s no service, we weren’t able to send a distress signal at all, and the only thing you have out there is hope, hope that somebody finds you, hope that a helicopter flies over,” Aaron Schwartzman, who owned the boat, said to FOX 5 Monday."

“I finally bought the boat of my dreams, or so I thought, for it to sink on me,” Schwartzman said."

I "hope" I never find myself on a boat with people like him. Maybe just the horrific attempt at journalism that article is but he seems pretty clueless.

It sank so fast you couldnt hit the DSC button? I would think that if it was filled with that much water to drop so quick that you would have noticed something before that

Interesting that the boat sank. I am not familiar with larger boats, but most small boats like mine have flotation foam so when swamped, they still float. Maybe not the case for larger or older vessels. Also, a good reason to have an epirb accessible or better yet, a castaway bag.

hmmmmm……with a swim step, could have been a sterndrive setup with rotted bellows. Lifting the engine may have turned a leaky bellows into a gusher and the bilge flooded.
