Nice Yellow

fished the Gap area of the channel islands monday along w/ Capt. Ollie.(triumph 215 cc) beautiful weather, near flats seas and almost no wind. we were armed w/ a box of frozen baby octopus, squid, and a scoop of live bait. first drop.....26+ inch ling! YES!... cont. to pick at nice quality rock fish all day(including a few 6-7lb reds! YES!). did very well also w/ 6oz. scrambled egg yo yo... around 3pm the tide started to change.... water was looking real fishy... bait started getting pushed tight...... and right on schedule this monster yellow picked up my dropper loop pinned w/ a dine. YES!!!!! pics tell the rest..... thank you fish GODS!

Nice fish! I guess you got to keep the yellow and Joe kept the rockfish. Did he ever correct his "secret" rockfish gps number that landed about 1/4 mile ashore near Italian Gardens? There were a lot of rocks..but no fish.

OILAGER must have it right, Capt. Joe (Ollie) Oliver is a hard act to out fish on his home water. Good Strategy to change up and target the Yellow. Joe must never have saw it coming. Talked to him briefly Tuesday, said he was going to call me back with a story, but must of forgot. Guess I know it now, super nice sumotail. Congrats all around.

30lb to 25lb floro, gloomis, saltiga 30t....i cant remember the last time a fish took me around the boat, this guy took me around twice. best part of the story is when we realized the gaff was at home. literally broke the halibut net but was able to boat the fish. we must have looked like a real joke! lol
