Lots of guys fish tournaments.

Lots of tournaments give out tackle for awards and raffles.

Lots of guys unload said tackle online because they already have better gear or want different gear.

Mystery solved. :-)
how many of these sellers here are on those tournaments? just asking :)

OK, one time, I bought a reel (used) came to my senses and sold it for what I paid for it.

But, why are there so many NIB reels for sale? I asked the question of one guy who has a couple of reels for sale, this exact scenario. He replied "I have doubles of everything."

Question is why buy and then sell for less than list? Are these deals guys who are selling for retailers?
A lot of guys are getting them in bulk from Manufacturers I heard a guy tell me the other day if I got 6 Shimano reels of any kind at 1 time he could get them 50% off retail he has some kind of connection, I am sure others do the same with other Manufacturers and then sell them here and still make cash.

It does matter if they are stolen. I've been noticing the same sellers with many NIB reels for sale consistently. Makes one think.
Let's get a rope!!!! :)

I'm ok with them making cash on bd if that means we save cash on bd. Everyone on here has access to a quick google search for a price check. If they are ok buying a reel for a small discount and no tax I don't see a problem. Suggesting bd members don't have the competence to do a quick price check is insulting to bd members. Some bd members don't have but a few tackle shops near them. The one by me is over priced and I refuse to buy there. Sport chalet down the street just closed and they use to price match anything online. Bd gives people like me looking for some relief on some great gear. None of the $60 braid included deals are enough for me to drop everything I'm doing to go grab one. That doesn't mean it wouldn't save someone a few bucks if that's what they were looking for. I'm sure there are tackle shops that give great deals. Most of us don't know where they are.

There are people that use BD as a storefront for their "connections" in the fishing industry and they do sell on BD along with all the flippers and fast buck drive by
"members" and if they are found to be a front for retail they are uninvited to continue on
I for one have been saying that their should be a minimum post halo in other forums to become selling eligible in the classifieds....that would let people know who really is a fishing member ie; people that actually go on trips or post reports or just plain ask questions about "How to" or "How do I" and at least people could see that it's not a business
I can't even tell you how many people have NEVER posted anywhere except the classifieds to turn over gear.

The rules are posted and it would be nice if people would actually read them

Now about the NIB stuff........I just found a box that had a bunch of NIB reels but then again I have a sickness and also CRS so I don't even remember when I got them but it must have been a "need to have thing" ;)

Just another day on BD

Oh yeah....the sickness.....tackle ho and the CRS.....Can't remember shit
other than that I'm in good shape

I usually buy before I see i see the reel in person
I fish it
If I don't like it I'll sell it
I'm in Santa Barbara and the closest real store is turners in Oxnard and Erics tackle shop but even there I still don't get the prices like bd!
If some one has the reel for sell 20% off retail is a good price
BD IS by far the best website I have saved for buying tackle! Keep the GEAR coming IN BLOODYDECKS!

Steve, I asked one if the buyers your exact question and he replied that he had a source that would sell him reels at wholesale and he was just trying to make a buck.

In my short stay here I've noticed that a lot of the stuff listed is near retail pricing. With a little bit of knowhow you can easily get any reels at 25%+ off, using rebates, cashback sites, giftcards, etc. So I could easily see making profit off of buying and reselling on here.

In summary I think you guys are overpaying
Are you willing to share your know how with us?

It's a case by case scenario.

Back during the Sport Chalet days, I had a friend who bought a reel with a one item 25% off coupon, then was able to combine it with a promotion going on (spend $100 get a $20 gift card), and on top of that used his membership for $10 cash back for every $100 spent. Top it all off with free braid. It was quite the steal.

A lot of the guys have contacts, some of the guys work for tackle shops, some of the gear is from shops that are in trouble. As long as it's not stolen it's fine. Guys can charge whatever they want and let the market sort it out. Everybody is entitled to try and recover costs or make a buck.

A couple of years ago I bought most of the remaining inventory of a local supplier at very low prices. I doubled my cost and sold everything (at a lower price than original prices). I was happy, the supplier was happy, and almost all of the buyers wanted more. If someone takes the time and has the ingenuity to find stuff that people want they are entitled to a profit.

As for "FAKE DUANE," he's been a member since June 16, 2016....4 months! He's made fewer than 60 posts, and most have been to complain about other people's prices. IMO, if he doesn't like the site, GO ELSEWHERE. I don't think he has earned the right to be the conscience of BD.

Now I'm probably in trouble again, but I'm old and don't give a damned.

Does the bold text and caps help you get your point across more clearly? Maybe I should do the same.

For the record, BD has some great pricing. I've bought, traded, and sold plenty of gear in those 4 months.

But, I digress. I'll get back to you in a year or so when I (hopefully) have earned the glorious right to enter your conscience.

Whenever I am interested in buying the reel, I make sure I ask about the reason for the sale and the history of acquiring the reel, etc..
Sometimes the reason sounds good; other times, I cannot tell what the real reason is. I buy if I like the reel condition, the price, and the reason for the sale.
Certainly would not want to buy if the reel may be stolen.

I am not paranoid. I am not worried about it. No, I wont stay off the classifieds.....go pound sand.

I simply made an observation. Apparently, a nerve was struck.......

........just sayin. :D

also, another reason that when I am BUYING a reel, (rod, etc.), I only do it face to face.

I can detect a liar in about 10 seconds. I will not buy stolen, or suspected stolen, goods.....no matter how good the deal.

......bring on the flames........I can take it. Like I stated, I an NOT accusing anyone of anything.........just making an observation about what was asked on this thread.

I notice you don't say "no new gear" anymore. It had to hurt falling off the wagon and having it run over you so many times!

I get a little buyer's remorse on occasion. But some of these listings make the sellers look pretty stupid.

I also get that some guys will get more than a little carried away, buying not just hooks and jigs, fluorocarbon and other terminal tackle, but rods and reels, too. The suggestion to an angler who is about to make his first multi day trip, " Don't buy, borrow, use loaner/rental tackle" seems to fall on deaf ears. What if it's not your thing? I remember a guy, I think his handle here was "Longshot Scott." Went fucking nuts, spending in excess of $10,000 on gear for a 15 day. Sold it all less than six months after the trip.
I remember that guy also. Seems like he was from northern Cal. Maybe 2 years ago. He bought a ton of new shit. Some of which he was posting in the classifieds two to four weeks after he bought it. He musta had a gold mine or something.
