Next Build: Whaler 25' Guardian twin Yamaha F225s

Decided on doing another Guardian build. Here is what I got today. Did anyone on here get one of the other two boats with Opti's??

I don't think I will go as "crazy" with this one as I did with the 22' Guardian I did last time.

Anyone know any history on this boat? It's a 2002 with foam collars.

I went and looked at that and the other two but wasnt up for the project. With the right amount of work and money, these will be a cool paltform no doubt.

That boat screams macho. With 450 freeking horsepower there is not many west coast boats that could keep up with it - on a calm day that is. Bad to bone

Glad to hear someone here go it. I figured you were serious about it, hopefully it didn't get bid up too high. I really liked the disclaimer that came with it, something along the lines, "you better know how to drive a boat, because this one is a rocket!" It will be great to see what you do with it. Sweet project, congrats! Keep us posted.

Will keep everyone posted on progress. I find it "interesting" that the Navy dropped 450hp on a hull that Brunswick shows max hp at 300..... especially on a 3,600lb hull weight. I'm thinking mid 60s top end but haven't run the slip numbers to confirm.

Not once, but on all three vessels going thru auction.

Hopefully these motors have lower hours and don't show any exhaust corrosion signs.

And yes, the wife isn't happy with 4 boats on the payroll now.

Cant wait to hear more about this. I backed off just before you as I am not as qualified to assess the risk like you are. I had to assume these motors were high hours given their duty but without knowing I could only guess. I kind of thought that it may have been repowered at some point but was surprised to see they were mid 01 dates on them so they were probably original to them. I was going to go after 206 and repower but I knew the reserve was the same on all three. Please post your progress, I am sure after seeing your 22 that this will be just as good.

Not sure if you knew this but they do sell them for less than reserve, fyi........... if your the top bidder, expect a phone call within 24 hours and "work it out over the phone".

I have had good success at 75-90% of reserve amounts.

Thanks, I did assume that but they already approached that amount that was at my threshold. I will watch your build and maybe find the space and time in the future to try another one. I really like what you did with your 22.

I don't think the budget for this build will be anywhere near what my 22' Guardian build was ($70k total, excluding my time). I will never see that out of that 22' Guardian but it is built like a tank and has done it's fair share of duty offshore and for lobster. I think my total budget is going to be less than $25k, excluding foam tubes, assuming the motors are in some decent shape. If not, everything if going to be parted out to get my $$ back....

Stay tuned since I can't pick up the boat until the 19th....

Gald you got it. I put a couple bids in up to $15.6k - seems like a lot of work, even at $15K.

We have one here with twin 300's on it. ya gotta really hang on , I think it's a boat that would be too easy to make a an big mistake on.

Brunswick does not install with Yamaha, navy uses mercurys, somebody has touched it before

Was able to get it home today and played with the electrical for a bit. Got power to the motors and found out the motors have...................................... 560 hours........

Going to add fluids and filter changes and try to get the motors to run off a 1 gallon fuel tank to see how they sound.

That was a score if they are good. I would have guessed much more since they were 01 dates on them. Sometimes you gamble and win. Keep us up to speed on the progress.

Great deal. The 560 hours are from the computer or from the gauge? Looking forward to the project fotos.

Hours from computers which matched the guages. Checked Yamaha database and only work ever performed on these motors were two shift linkage recalls.

I figured the hours would be in line with the other two vessels going thru auction (the ones with optis 600 hrs and 1000 hrs.

Will drop the legs to see if exhaust corrosion issues present.

What year are the motors? THT and iboats have the most documented cases of corrosion.
At 560 hours, They are worth a lot of $$$. It's like you got a free boat with two engines.

The 2002 motors are probably worth $12-$14k with props. Controls with fuel management and complete hydro steering system another $1k. Furuno navnet with radar another $1k. All other electronics $0.5k. 10k aluminum torsion/disc brake trailer $3.5k. Hull $2-3k.

So probably $20k-$22k worth of parts (more or less). Whole running boat around $31-$33k.

That's why I trying to determine the fate of this vessel. Maybe part it out or ??????
