haven't been out fishing for awhile since I've started a new career. Slowly getting back to it. Anyone been out fishing in the Newport Beach bay? Any luck out there with sea bass & halibuts?

I've been fishing the harbor a lot lately. I've noticed some slightly better grade bass (for Newport at least). Its been pretty good since February or March. Last few times I've gone my brother and I have gotten 7-8+ bass with an occasional short halibut. Good luck!

Mouth of the harbor along the rocks produces all kinds of species. Targeting bay bass, they tend to stick around the structure of the docks. I fish the harbor year round just off my work dock. The 2-4 inch zooms with darter head and some fish scent seem to kill it. I switch out between orange, red, and white ones. Lucky crafts are also very awesome !

Caught several legal 22 - 25 inch butts over the past year.

Don't ever keep or eat a harbor fish. Pollutants are off the charts in all harbors and marshes due to urban runoff. Pesticides, fuels, waste, asphalt, etc. Just dont do it.

    Fun catch and release though!
