NEW WASHINGTON FORUM: FISHING RIGHTS

Ladies and Gentlemen.

There is a new Washington State Sub Section forum called "FISHING RIGHTS". It's time to stand up, band together, and protect the rights that special interest groups are trying to take away.

There has been a tremendous amount of effort put forth over many years to protect the rights that we do have. The people that have contributed to this forum and to THE CAUSE have listed many great ideas, and I did not want to lose those ideas over time. Therefore, this new forum is to act as a collector of these ideas AND as a tool that will allow us and fellow fishermen/conservationalists to band together and protect our rights and the future of our fisheries.

I have moved the threads concerning the NOAA "no-go" zone proposal to this sub section, but I have left a permanent redirect so you will always be able to find it in both forums.

If anyone has questions/concerns, OR IDEAS ON HOW TO MAKE THIS FORUM SERVE OUR CAUSE....please feel free to PM/email me.

Good move there Tommy, anything that helps people become aware of the crap that goes on around us everyday in the politics of fishing, is always a good thing.

Very eye opening for a lot of fisherman/fisherwoman's.

I watched first hand as the CA MLPA's were first introduced as a "ban the commercial gillnets" initiative. Everyone voted for it in the early 90's to help inshore fishing. While Halibut and White Seabass rebounded for sports, the "other stuff" written into the bill was to be enacted. Those are the closures of the best fishing waters in the state of CA - only everyone that voted for the bill never realized they were voting away their own rights down the road! Don't let lawmakers that are unaccountable to the public steal our rights away as they are wolves trying to wear sheeps clothing.

We must band together now, as it will be a lifetime, before we could unwind what they are trying enact on us today.

I agree Tobin I was heavily involved in that gill net ban fight Not everyone ,didn't realize the problem with excluding anyone.

Water under the bridge, we have a fight on our hands that we need to fight today. This is a great tool.

Lots of experience to the south. We in Oregon have been in this fight for more than a few years now, the CA guys helped provide us with some guidance. It was only a matter of time before it came to your doorsteps.

Great Job Tommy. I was hoping there was a way to keep this all in the forefront of peoples minds. We need to be vigilant during the winter months by keeping these issues aggressively pursued.
