Mike, people need to stop thinking about it as only 8 events a year. It will possibly host hundreds. As an example, Arizona, in the first year of the next stadium, hosted 115+ events of different sizes. And that stadium isn't as centrally located as this one would be. Lots of stuff will go on there. Don't forget about the Aztecs, bowl games, races, car shows, and on and on. Everybody will benefit from a new place.
How many of those non-Charger events "require" a new stadium in order for them to be held in SD.?
Of those, (if any) how many would need to be held in how many years to pay off the new stadium with maintenance and all operational costs added in?
Would that occur in less time than it takes for the new stadium to be "antiquated/outdated" and time for a new modern one?

In other news it is being reported there is nothing in writing about the Carson site. Everything is either a verbal agreement or by handshake. Can you say shakedown of SD.

that is the same as why fish for halibut today because if you wait a week or two they will be bigger .

a new stadium will be built and it just comes down to the Chargers spending the least amount of $$$$ or none at all.

bend over San Diego and yell CHARGE

The BIG ? to me is "what will become of the current stadium/site if the Chargers bail?"......I don't mind chipping in on a new stadium if it will keep a zillion condos from being built on the site. SD's quality of life "issues" in my mind are generally rooted in overcrowding...

How Sean? Tell me how I would directly or even indirectly benefit?

    "Hundreds" of events?
Well, last year alone you had the benefit of losing 12 million tax payer dollars :D

That's why it makes sense to wait it out. We have the cheap pricks...errr the Spanos right where we need em to be. No where to move and no deals in place.

We can't afford to give the gift of 5-600 million dollars when our roads look worse than TJs. Bottom line is I believe the voice of san diego's report of a 12 million dollar net loss after all events at the stadium.

Who the hell considers a twelve million dollar loss an investment? I want to be their bookie if that is the case.

I do not think that the stadium in Arizona is a good model to emulate. The city of Glendale is almost bankrupt, largely due to the money it has spent on professional athletic venues: http://thinkprogress.org/sports/2015/01/30/3616285/super-bowl-comes-glendale-city-ruined-sports/

I'm not in the city limits....City boy.

There was talk of the county getting in on it. Curious how "profits" would be distributed if that were to happen. Lol

The idea that the University of Phoenix stadium hosts huge numbers of events is highly questionable. I just looked at their own website, and they have 12 events listed for June- December of this year. 9 of these are Phoenix Cardinal games. They have another 3 events in January of 2016, including a Cardinals game, and one in February. There are no other events currently listed for 2016.

    An urban legend, perhaps?

I'm all for building a "multi-use" stadium, if this will be one of the events...
