new reel for 15 pount test

What are you going to use it for? Bait? Rubber? For bait, newell 220 or the daiwa hv20. Both are awesome reels. For the rubber, shimano curado 200 or the 300. The 300 will give you ample room to bump up and use 20 lb test. Curado has enough drag (I think #15 lbs of drag). Hope this helps. Good luck.

seriously, Abu Garcia inshore revo or penn sargus. The spool's a little heavier than the curado, but that's because the inside isn't hollow and exposed. The Curado's fine if you keep up maintenance, and it's a little cheaper with the mail-in rebate.

Kyle is right, well almost, if you want to catch calicos and sandbass on the 1/2 day boat - a neweel 220 is an ok bait reel. Throwing rubber I have a Penn 975. It's ok, but I'm sure there are better.

If you want to stop a larger model inshore fish next to any structure, you'll need something that can put the brakes on the fish, something a Newell 220 can NOT do.

Something an SX CAN do.

I'm sure there's a smaller Shimano type reel like a Torsa or Trini that can do the same for around $600.

I am pretty sure you can tighten the drag enough on a newell 220 to snap #15.

Single speed sx is under $200 and can be used for a variety of fishing apps.

Trinidad 12 is an insane reel but out of that price range.

look into the penn gs series they're pretty cheap and have PLENTY of drag i have my trusty old newell 220 that is my goto bass 1/2 day twi-light set-up and it has PLENTY of drag aswell hell if you need alittle more pressure you could always set down your cheeseburger and lay your thumb on the spool . you're gonna get bit off before you get rocked fishin 15 and if your fishin for larger model fish using 15 ??? my .02 brad

I got an SX with 20# from Chark last summer and first trip out for albies, I put a 33 lb BFT on the deck with the little bugger. Great little reel for Yellers and Kelp also. I throw jigs, darts, top iron and bait with it on a seeker inshore. I also love my bullet-proof and nice-throwing sealine X 20shv with 15lb on it

Any of the reels mentioned has drags more than capable enough for 15#. You need a light spool with 15# for good casting with light baits. I'm a big fan of the Penn 525 Mag. Killer drags and great casting (disengaging pinion gear). The Daiwa Saltist 20 is right in there too and also has the disengaging pinion. It just feel a little clunkier. The Newell 220 casts good to in an old school package. Personally, I'd go with either the Penn or the Daiwa over the Avet for 15#.

for bass in the kelp i still go with abu c4's (the blue ones), also have a luna 203 that has seen plenty of bass...but for fly lining again, anything above will work fine, the 220 is the OG..pair it up on a seeker 858 and you are golden

Might be heresy, but you might want to look into Stradic 6000, which is what we use to 15lb.

We bought it for early season albies, but we've never had difficulty catching them on 25 & 30lb line.

True dat. I don't like the heavy reels for tossin rubber and crocs at the kelp. Too heavy, handles are big. I use a penn 955 for 10# and 975 15#. toss wind, toss wind.
Seeker inshore are sweet.
