I fish with a bunch of gold trinidads, 16 and 20 models specifically. I prefer no clamp, but reality is I need a place to hook my iron jigs and nothing really beats a reel clamp. Will the newer trinidad/talica bolts and clamps work? I prefer as light and low profile as possible...

IIRC, the Trinidad 16 does not have an integrated clamp like the Torium 16 does. So you're stuck with Shimano's or Tiburon's universal-style clamp. Doubt that Trinidad A or Talica clamp parts will fit on old Trinidad's. The Shimano Parts Shop still sells parts for some discontinued reels.

Screw ties are screwed into what? (Cork tape/Hypalon?)
Regular zip ties looped around what?--side of guide?

thanks
See the picture right above your question. Wrap the "zip-tie" around the front of the reel seat, or where ever you want it, pull it tight, and put your hook in the ring on the zip-tie. It really works.
