Anyone pick up any of the SPJ rods yet? Im thinking about pickup up the 50# as just an all around SPJ setup (didn't go the Hawaiian route)... instead of buying 2. Need to put the 15XNLD2 on something.

I just got my Penn SPJ rod. I would say it matches great with my Fathom 15XNL2. My Fathom 10XNLD will go to my Hawaiian SP rod.

I would do the 300 gram for an all round because how many times will you really fish a 350-500g jig? Unless its an ahi jig of some sort i never do myself... The penn rods are my favorite because they are reasonably priced compared to something like phenix, and they match my penn gear better.

The rods action as it is jigging. Curious how it compares to the action of some of the slow pitch rods I’ve seen on YouTube.

The PENN SPJ rods are very slightly heavier actions than those produced in Japan.

As expected, during our final day of fishing, the SPJ was especially effective on lingcod.

nice linger! is that a grub attached to a jig?? also interesting to see you slow pitching with a slammer.

Yes, in some "super productive" waters, a plain jig is immediately attacked by a smaller-grade fish.
Adding the grub increases the lure profile enough to make the small ones hesitate long enough for the better-grade to have a chance to bite the lure.
I use the Slammer 4500 with 30-pound braid on the Battalion 250 gr. spinning model rod, and the 5500 with 40 pound braid on the 450 gr. spinning model rod.
