Counts were good, booked the New Lo Ann fished Thursday. 68 YFT 50 Skips and 78 Boneys. Clean boat the bathroom was the cleanest I have ever seen. Only your Wife and Mom care, but it was. Bait was big and very small sardines. Early morning stop put most all the YFT on the boat at one point it was a Bite every cast. Wanted the tiny Sardines. I was able to put 4 on the boat that stop. Bit off twice and pulled hook twice. Probably because I was fishing 15# and #2 hook for this stop. With 15# on my 196-7 fathom 12, I could get the bait out there.
Last stop of the Day bigger grade and wanted the Large deans. Mid morning was slow, after lunch the most epic wide open Bonito bites I have experienced. A Crazy Boney on every Jig cast, a Wild Blast for 40 minutes. I probably hooked 25 gave them away and shook most back in to the Sea. Seriously the Boney Explosion was the highlight. Tossed a chrome/yellow Tady 2a that I bought from a BDr here on Steve Carson’s suggestion.
Food was excellent thanks Kairee and Markus the Deckhand was Awesome will have his Capts license soon (if I owned a boat I’d hunt him down) hard working phenomenal attitude great people skills, Markus was great and outshined the others. Kudos!!!
Was a trip with a lot of Cool people on board. Was absolutely no “That Guy!!” (Which concerns me now that I think about it, maybe I was “that Guy”, anyway) Met some cool Guys that flew down from Westport. Those northwest Salmon Fishermen know how get it done. Some guys that fished the Liberty all day and walked on directly on to the NLA after Icing down there Limits. Gotta Love those kind of fisherman. Some folks from NorCal. The two others that got limits were sharp Local SoCal Guys.
I had my limit and was happy to be taking those YFT home but while they were cutting I thought I should try a Boney and a skipjack so I had them cut one each for me. Thrilled I did!! Cooked them up. NLA handled them well. No telling the difference and I even had some as Sashimi. I am certain few if any could tell the difference. I haven’t taken a bone home for 45 years, we’ll before RSW. This is great Tuna, take it home and eat it up. Keep and eat these great fish.
What worked light line small hooks small bait. Didn’t see any Jig Fish was an active group up there throwing them colt snipers on them Fancy Bass Rods ay have been some but not many.
2 1/2 ride home so for “Safety’s Sake” I hit Mitches for the mixed plate, crab cake, calamari (awesome) fish, shrimp fries and coleslaw.
If you have had a tough year or two of BFT fishing this Limit style fishing will do you GOOD!!!
Most of All, just get on a boat it is still great fishing. And Thank God for this beautiful Ocean filled with these amazing creatures to chase and eat!!!
