If you had a trip that was booked on the New-Lo-Ann and it was changed over to a charter, do you get a spot on the charter? I was looking at a couple of trips in early July and now they are all charters, was just wondering. NLA is one of my favorite boats but it now appears to be a charter boat and it is disappointing that I have thrown feelers to get on a NLA charter but never heard anything, any tips out there. I have a job and come from out of state that I have to plan months in advance so Last minute trips don’t work. I have a August trip on the Vagabond that I will keep every year but a yearly summer trip on a bluefin killing boat would be good.
There are different types of "charters". Here are my thoughts:
One is where the Charter Master pays of the entire boat and collects from each individual passenger. He is responsible to fill the boat with as many people as he wants. This is a true charter. There usually is no price listed in the brochure.
The other one might say Charter, Open Charter, or have some person's or group's name on the schedule. These are usually printed on the brochure for whatever reason, but can be deceiving. I.e. a group of 5-10 guys come on the same trip every year, so management decides to give the trip a "name" such as Joe Blow charter. The Office fills all the spots. Joe Blow goes for free if the boat fills, and pays a percentage if it doesn't.
Another one might be a Sponsored Charter. I.e. Accurate, Phenix, Izorline, etc. The sponsor goes for free, and gives away free stuff. The Office fills the spots
Another one is where the Charter Master dictates to the office who can be on the trip, but isn't responsible to pay for the entire boat. Don't understand this one.
Did I miss any?
