[Most important want to thank the Drew Family & So Cal Penske group for the continued support & allowing me to organize this great work trip. Thanks to Zane, Bloody Decks, Phenix, for all the cool raffle swag! Carl, thanks for hooking us up with all the last minute gear! Also thanks to the great group of guys that have turned into friends that ive accumulated during this journey! Now to the fun stuff! Leading up to our trip all that was around was 200-300 lb cow bluefin tuna which is awesome but being a work trip I always stress as 2 days fishing & if we’re lucky we get 10 bft, doesn’t make it much of a fun trip for those remaining passengers that didn’t get one… Talking to Capt Markus before our trip & discussing a game-plan & he explained that fishing has been tough, lots of bait in the water, the clemente bft have scattered & moving north, the yellowfin tuna fishing isn’t as great as the internet has been wanting us to believe, etc…. He said there’s a small influx of yft down south but lots of boats are in the area & majority of them a strking-out & very few boats are making a nice catch of the them. Also new crew On The New Lo Ann was concerning but ultimately it all worked out & another successful trip. Markus always runs our trip but due to Matt being on vacation we had an added bonus to also having Adam as the second & working the deck. The new chef Kyreese made us some amazing food! Markus said we were going to head south & start looking for offshore kelps at 100 miles & we found a few of the right kind. We managed 230 yellowtail & 50 dorados, majority of the yellows were quality size & not rats, some were chunky & had shoulders! A few quality 20 lb dorados also came over the side. We had our bait tanks full of healthy firecracker sardines so a small #2 hook was key. Some of the kelps had some monsters on them & we were unable to stop them…. Zane managed to bait the same Marlin 3 different times with a mackerel but ultimately the hook didn’t stick. Fun group, lots of fish, great weather & flat seas made it another successful run. ***final count 230 yellowtail & 50 dorado**** My son was more excited about being part of the crew, scrubbing & washing down decks, pulling hooks & bleeding out fish, getting in the way, etc…. Stay in school son! Thanks to all involved & always looking forward to next year!!!
