Decided to go with the New Lo-An on an overnight trip in the last minute. The boat was 31 anglers leaving on Saturday night 9/30/2017 at around 9pm. After looked at the baits and met with Captain’s meeting –was told to be fishing @ 20 miles South of San Diego, I went to bunk snooze off early. Early morning at the 1st stop @ 8:15am, it was wide open with YFTs. I managed to pull on 5 YFT’s @ 10lbs – 18lsb. And at @ 9:30am, the bite slowed down to nothing. A total of @ 118 YFT’s was caught by 31 anglers. The boat went off and looked for dorados’ in the kelps after that. From 9:30am to 3:00pm, the boat made 3 stops, and we pulled in 39 dorado’s total. I got one @ 10lbs size. In these three stops, whenever the dorados bite, I witnessed the most crazy and chaotic fishing seeing…. The boat called off fishing @ 3:30pm and returned back to the dock. It was nice ride, a little swell, and I again snoozed off. What was working: 1. Light lines: #1 hooks, 20lb-25lb flouro. 2. Live active baits. The New Lo-An crews were working very hard to help the anglers from tangles and gaping fishes. The new captain Adam knew what he was doing and very friendly – talking to the anglers constantly on the PA. The whole gangs were great people and worked together with the fishermen.
