So I recently purchased a new Del Mar Skiff from Ed at Mexicat. Its a center console with Mexicat's 2ft extension bracket. Ive still got to rig the skiff ect. But i thought i would share pics and progress since there aren't very many of these around (Especially here in SoCal).

It was a pleasure working with Ed (@pinchi_frondo). I was a bit apprehensive pulling the trigger on buying one of these since Mexicat is out of Ensenada Mx, but as soon as i reached out to Ed he instantly got back to me. He was so easy to work with and would get back to me on any of my questions usually within a few hours. Long story short, he's a good guy thats makes quality boats.

So far I haven't done anything on the skiff, i needed to obtain a trailer first and I wasn't going to drop 2500-3k on a new one so I bought an Offer up special for a few hundred bucks and brought her new life. I do have a new Yamaha 40 in the crate waiting to be installed. Stay tuned for updates and feel free to reach out with any questions

Ive been following Mexicat for a while as well. Cool boats. I’ve assumed it would be a hassle to import and register a Mexico built boat. Can you comment on that part?

    Thanks for posting.

Fairly painless process at Ca Dmv or your local registration service... most of our boats go to California

Sorry everyone for the gap in updates. If you message Ed on instagram @pinchi_frondo he WILL respond with any questions/inquiries. He builds them to order so pricing depends on what you want. He will deliver the boat and help u register it too which is not a big deal. The skiff i have with the extension bracket is 15ft and weighs about 700lbs give or take (not rigged).

I have been able to make some good progress a little at a time. I'll post the pics, i will try and be better about responding to your questions. This is my first time rigging a boat like this so be kind....

I made up my own jig from a template that I printed off the Internet to mount the outboard. Once the motor was mounted I made sure to mark where the bait tank/leaning post was going to be placed. Then I pulled the cap off the hull so i could run all the plumbing, electrical and control wires. Once I was able to figure out where everything was going to run, I just did one circuit at a time with the electrical using all marine grade connectors and wires. There Are two bilge pumps and a pump for the bait tank, which will have an intake and drain through the hull below the waterline.

Once I was sure all my wiring and rigging and plumbing was in place and everything secured where it should be, i installed the cap back on with the help of five buddies. I don't have pictures, but I have since install the center console and finished connecting all the wiring, plumbing, and controls. I still need to install the bait tank and rubrail and I am still in search of a prop.

In the photos the gunnels on that boat seem exceedingly wide to the point of loosing space inside the boat,Is it just an optical illusion or is their some reason for that?
    Very cool,keep posting updates.

Yeah, super wide gunnels. Dont know the reason for it. As far as i know, all the del mar's have been made this way even before mexicat got ahold of the mold. The up side is it allows for a lot of storage that the skiff otherwise lacks.

I think greenough originally designed these to be little rescue craft more like a beefed up seadoo or just a surf skiff. I don't think deck space for fishing was a design concern.

    Thinking 3 things possible:
    Flotation
    Rigidity
Ease of sticking to original design

If a big swell flips a small boat, you don't want it to turtle!

I can see the hull without the cap, but can't see under the gunnel - does it run front to back completely open? If so, seems like a lot of options for some creative storage

You can see the black sharpie marks is where i traces the inside edge of the cap so i knew where to put my bedding adhesive. That width of open space from the hull to the black line runs all the way up.

That's an impressive amount of space. Did you store the battery in there? I think I see a tray on the port side. Almost wonder if you can build a fish box in the gunnel

I recently got the skiff out on the water. She handles so well. Very stable and handles rough conditions much better than i thought. Im getting about 11 mpg with the yamaha 40. I have been breaking in the motor and haven't had smooth conditions to see my top end speed at WOT.

Been out in white caps and felt totally comfortable. She's also very dry.
