(I've had some conflicting information regarding this model. Hopefully i've represented this release correctly. Thank you)

1st Unboxing Of This Unknown Lever Drag That Greatly Differs From The iCAST Reels Highlighted 2yr Ago!

What makes this lever drag different from the other Alijos coming out latter this year? It incorporates a TDC "Tournament Drag Cam" that is recently being offered to Makaira Reel owners as an add on.

MAKAIRA TDC DRAG CAM "Okuma’s TDC or “Tournament Drag Cam” is designed with a more gradual ramp in the cam system that is intended for anglers fishing light line and tournament IGFA line classes. The standard cam that is installed in the Makaira reels is engineered to be compatible with braided line and offers aggressive drag ramps in order to output heavy drag ratings. The Makaira reels are engineered to output extreme drag pressure, but this is not required by all anglers. These reels have been designed to offer customization and with the TDC cam system, Okuma is offering anglers a reel that is versatile for a wide range of fishing applications, allowing anglers the ability to achieve a more gradual increase in drag settings".

Currently 2 models of the Alijos will offer this. On the Makaira line it's an addition. Alijos will still offer these sizes coming out soon- Two-Speed Lever Drag Reels
    AJ-5NII
    AJ-5II
    AJ-12NSII
    AJ-12II
    AJ-12SII
    AJ-16II

High Speed Lever Drag Sailfish Reels
AJ-12S SE (The One I'm Portraying)
    AJ-16S SE

For the Sailfish editions the S is for Speed/High Speed & the SE is for Special Edition.

The TDC is one of the major differences separating these 2 Sailfish Editions from the other 2-speed models. The other difference is they have an Ergo Grip Handle rather than the 90˚ T-Bar for ease of retrieving the wet lines at a faster speed. Also the 2-speed Alijos incorporates a DFD "Dual Force Drag". The 2 Sailfish editions uses a Carbonite Drive. Both drives still uses Cal's Grease.

This is a user specific reel meant for specific surface feeding species during moments of multiple hook-ups. Might even work for Mahi-Mahi "Dorado" & Wahoo as well. These reels aren't described fully on Okuma's website but are highlighted in their 2021 catalog.

Have they resolved the drag problem with the Alijos? I bought one right away once it hit the market but sold it. Several bd’rs here sent theirs for service and got a check refund (great okuma customer service here). Hopefully they have addressed this issue already as Alijos is a very promising reel.

Gotta ask... what's with all of these breathless Scuba Chris reviews of Okuma product (all overwhelmingly positive and free of even constructive criticism). Most of the info posted is just web site boilerplate.

Do you pay full pop retail for these endless rods and reels?
Do you get wholesale pricing or kickbacks?
Pro Staff? (Remember, that doesn't mean professional or even pro-level fisherman--it means promotional staff.)
Would sincerely love for you to answer this.

Not trying to be a dick, but like all the major manu's, there are pluses and minuses across the product spectrum of every brand.

But if Scuba Chris is posting just to get greased with freebies, these should be flagged as spam. I hope's that's not the case.

I'd like to recant and soften my comment above.
I didn't realize that this is an Okuma-specific sub-forum. One should expect some degree of enthusiasm and cheerleading in a slot that a brand cares enough about to sponsor.
