Hello, so I am trying to decide on how to fish my Fathom. Also what type of rod should I use. How do you guys fish your Penn Fathom 25n? Also what rod do you recommend? Thanks in advance for the help

It is a versatile reel that can cover any number of applications.
At about 24 lbs of drag at sunset, this is an ideal 40# reel (assuming using braid).

I have (the torque version) of a 25N on a Calstar 6480 for an 8ft 40# bait rig that is my go to.

If chasing bird schools on this bigger BFT, I replace my star drag with a 25N 2 speed on my GG90J for iron or poppers. Doesn't sacrifice much on cast-ability, and gives me more drag and 2 speed.

Way too many rods available to recommend, but something along the lines or equivalent to a Calstar 610 or GFR 700MH would be a great 7ft 40 combo for live bait.

Carl is on the money, it’s an excellent #40 reel. I filled mine with 65# solid (just under 400yds). Mine currently sits on a Calstar 875h. Rod choice is best made by finding the biggest hole in your quiver. Where is your biggest weakness or what would be your desired spot for this reel?

If your unsure about your gaps, how about what you intend to target, and what do you have now?
3/4 day island for yellows, 1.5 day for offshore, multi-day?
Give us an idea or a starting point and there is a wealth of knowledge on this board to get you going Frankie.

I own (3) penn 25N size reels all of them perform great.
    (1) fathom 25N star drag on a calstar 900h 40lb jig stick/utility rig.

    (2) torque 25N star drag on a calstar 800m 30lb bait rig.

    (3) fathom 25Nld2 on a calstar 800h 40-50lb utility rig.
