ok diawa long cast minnows, krocodiles etc Tady c I think most of the lures will be between 2 to maybe 4 oz. all the rods I’m looking at give a lure weight recommendation. 1 - 4. 2 - 6 . 3 -8 oz rating. I’m concerned that if I choose the lighter rod it won’t have the backbone for the poppers which I believe are 3 oz. any guidance would be appreciated. Thanks

I fish months a year around Cabo. Go to a Jansen surfishing shop down there. One is in Cabo, one at San Jose harbor. Their rods are good their prices very resonable. I suggest an 11 foot rod but ask them. They are honest and will hook errr set you up!. I love my Saragosa 8000 reel. If you want a rod from up here I have two suggestions.

That’s a great idea if I were gunna use that rod a lot. I love my Phenix rods, however one time a year or less. Too much money. That rod you suggest is 330$

I surf fish a lot in Mexico, West Coast and Cabo for the last 25yrs. My favorite long cast surf rod is the Century Sling Shot 1505 (144L) paired with a Diawa Saltist 6500 or the new BG. I used the BG this year and it performed very well! Another lighter rod but with a great backbone and capable of long casts is the Breakaway Omega (10'6"). For me the sweet spot of the 1505 is 3oz and Omega 2.5oz. Omega at 3oz is very good as well. I also have a couple of Stephen's rods and if you are leaving next week I'd buy one from him..I have the older version of the Baja Beach..12' 6", decent rod..has caught a lot of roosters! Buena Suerte!

Well guys thanks for all the great input. Some great info. I pulled the trigger on a Cedros 11’ csx with a lure rating of 2 to 5 oz. mh mf. It might be slightly heavy but should do just fine. Mfishter thanks for the concise info. Much appreciated to all. .
