Holy Moly, you got lucky with that marlin! Bringing a live marlin into a boat and hoisting it up for a picture before releasing it -- I completely understand the desire to do it, but you and the guys helping you were REALLY lucky. Marlin injure as many humans as sharks do every year, it just doesn't sell news advertising so it is not as well known. That bill is incredibly dangerous. The skipper on a boat that I was fishing once started to come down the side ladder from the flybridge to assist in a release and the fish in an instant went vertical like a Polaris missile and missed spearing him by only a couple of inches, knocked the cap off his head by hitting it with the bill as he surged past him and broke the line. I've also seen bills driven into the side of two boats, coming right through into the interior.

    Craig,
You definitely had a cow. They act differently and they don't move when you pull on them. The sheer power and weight is unmistakable. Now that you have experienced it, Every fish you hook in the future will be compared to this fish. The feeling of being over matched and the underdog in the fight is what keeps us coming back. You win some and you lose some. This time the fish won.

I watched you from a distance as the fish had his way with you. These fish are big, mean, and savvy.
