seriously... With the fervor created over the guy who posed with his lion... And the lady who posed with her giraffe. These pics and these hunters have created a worldwide controversy. Yes, I know e lion was "lured" out of a protected area, but still. I'm wondering how long it will take for someone to attack us fisherman. We all like taking pics with our big fish and posting here and elsewhere. And wait till the nature lovers see how we beat wahoo and big tuna with an aluminum bat. Maybe it's worry about nothing... But I hope someone is thinking about what we will say, as an industry, when that day comes (hello SAC ?). I eat all I catch and donate the rest to provide food for the homeless, but with most "protesters", that doesn't usually matter. Anyway.. Just a thought.

Ha ha! You beat me to it! I love and respect nature! There is no comparison between this sport and the exotic trophy hunter stories currently making all the news. Fish on!

Hunters and fisherman are some of the best stewards of the resource out there. Only takes a few to give everyone a bad name. What we are doing is legal, and the fish we target aren't endangered (or cute and furry). I would like to think we will be fine for a while.

We all must support each other.....wait for the true story not what the media reports....stand behind science & not emotion. And remember we pay to protect wildlife not the lefties/antis or common man for the most part.

    In your mind perhaps.
It's not like minded individuals that are the concern.

I don't see a whole lot of difference between paying fat cash to go fish cows on a LR boat and paying mucho dinero to go "trophy" shooting in Africa.
I'm an avid angler and hunter. How does the average non perceive and distinguish is the crux of the issue.
Why is this in the LR Forum to begin with.

Unless you start seeing lion or giraffe on the sushi table at those expensive seafood restaurants that cater to the Hollywood or New York types I wouldn't worry too much. They are more apt to support denying something to someone else than to themselves, especially if its tasty and keeps them on their diet so they can make the weight for their next movie etc...

The trend in fishing magazines has been: no blood, no gaff marks, no photos "in poor taste" just to minimize negative reactions from the sensitive crowd. Remember when "Western Outdoors Magazine" featured hunting as well as fishing? There is a growing number of people who would like to see the end of hunting and fishing and many have infiltrated government and regulatory positions. Remember when California Department of Fish and Wildlife was "Fish and Game"? Huge difference in meaning and hardly anyone said anything when changed. We just need to be aware and, at the minimum, don't empower the enemy.
