During the bite last season Markus scrounged-up every heavy rig rental rod he could from Fishermans & PL
He wants these big fish badly & will make sure you have the right gear, even if youre a newbie.
Congrats on the pig! Signing in first does have it's perks when youre in the kite rotation & they are only going to bite in the dark to first light....

    Awesome Fish! Congrats.

"It is amazing how strong these fish are!!!! They just don't want to eat any bait. I had one shot to throw a pooper at them but that was it."

I am hesitant to throw poopers because I fear the fish will taste like shit. But whatever works I guess.

This may be a dumb question, but fish that are caught on the kite do they get split up with the passengers?

I'm guessing it's up to the angler that caught it, but if it's a "slow" trip where only a couple cows are caught, what happens?

Not a dumb question, but a wise and equitable policy that three day and under trips should adopt. The kite is like troll teams except that it's one at a time. On one three day I somehow became the last guy in the kite rotation, (nothing was announced), and so many nice 60lb plus fish came in on that kite, (my number was no good when it finally came up). When a tuna takes a double trouble it has everything to do with the boat and almost nothing do with the angler except landing the fish. Many kite fish landings are assisted by the crew also and it begs the question about spreading the wealth. That said, with the modern preference to have fish processed instead of filleting on the boat it might not be practical to share parts of a fish any more.

You guys sound like Bernie Sanders. When did fishing become a Socialist activity? Kite fish are like troll fish. Your rotation number is determined by your sign in number. If you want early rotation spot then sign in early, just like if you get all fired up by trolling and want to make sure you get to do that in the am. Also, troll fish are never devided unless the dude who caught it wants to do that, and troll fish also "Have everything to do with the boat and almost nothing to do with the angler besides landing the fish". Hell the position of the jig in the troll spread or wake is determined by a deck hand. So why be forced to share a kite fish? If anything I can see a kite fish not allowed in the jackpot like a troll fish but that's it (also if someone else pulled on the fish for you because you couldn't finish the job yourself regardless of how it was hooked then also no jackpot). Sometimes you have an early number but the best bite is in the afternoon or vise versa. If your number is called and the kite gets bit then lucky you, it's your fish. Share it if you want to, but you are not obligated

Early numbers are no better than later numbers on the new lo-an. They draw a number out of a hat. That person is first and then each number after that is next until they get to the last number. Then it goes back to 1 and continues on up.

Well that is a more "democratic" way of doing it. About as fair as it could be then. Still your fish if the kite gets bit when your number gets called.
