Some if you guys might appreciate this. Grandpa Dan (my dad) was busy in his workshop leading up to Christmas. He built a replica of my real-life truck and boat, complete with functioning crab/shrimp pot puller and a ferry boat with cars and trucks.

    Nice!
Rub a little tuna blood in there for realism!

Matt's dad my brother in-law has built several wood toys for my son through the years. A wood train set with several cars, Cargo Airplane, a rocking horse and this replica of a trawler I ran 30+ some years ago in Alaska. This tor is at least 25 years old. Originally it had a net on one of the reels, a working anchor winch, working net reels. working gilson winches and of course a fish hold full of fish. He has a true talent. It is a lucky kid these days who gets a toy that doesn't have a screen.

That's the true spirit of Christmas right there. Your kids will have something unique, made from love and talent, that they will always remember and have to pass on to their kids. You know what would be really cool is if one or more of your kids took an interest in learning how to do that kind of wood-carving themselves and spent time learning his craft. It could possibly be a gift to both your Dad and your kids.

Very cool! Brings back some great memories of my dad making wooden toys, kitchen sets, train sets etc for the grandkids while he was still alive. He was the type to give a grandkid a hammer and a saw or a rope for his birthday instead of a plastic piece of crap that makes noises and uses batteries. Thanks for sharing!
