    Gave it a shot last Sunday and was way under gunned breaking off four times so today I came prepared and it payed off, finally get to check this off the list!

    Gave most away to friends n neighbors had a feast tonight, Want to experiment with bridaling mackeral to jaw hook one.

    There’s been a good bite on them for over two weeks, probably where you caught yours..those are good eater size, congrats..most of them being released but I have no problem keeping one here or there for the grill....live bait and mouth hooking them makes them a much better right and easier to release and be more selective about what you harvest. Drag n snack works but it’s definitely not the most sporting....you don’t really need to bridle your bait for threshers.

    Salt and Pepper Directly on the Steaks - 2/3 Olive Oil - 1/3 A Dry White Wine + Minced Garlic + Cilantro + Squeeze of Lemon. Overnight in Friday - Do not rinse - On a hot grill.

    Damn those looks BOMB Were you targeting T's or did you just get lucky? I have always wanted to catch a thresher but only sharks I seem to catch are blues..

    Yes I was targeting them. more of a bucket list thing I don’t plan on going out and killing a bunch.

    Bayfisher Aaron is correct. No need to bridle a mackerel. All we ever use is 135 lb test fluorocarbon leader which is probably also unnecessary tied directly to a 7/0 or 8/0 Aki no twist hook. Avet MXJ Raptor loaded with 50# or 65# braid on Phenix 809 xf or xhj. Fun up to about 200# with a skiff. Sometimes we rubber band on 1 oz to 5 oz of lead well ahead of the leader attachment if the fish seem to be moving deeper.
