I finally finally decided to make the jump and go for a complete build of a fishing rod from the blank, I have been restored and rewrapped few rods so far so, basic wraping & epoxy job is under control, but restoring rods for my friends and co-woerkers didnt gave me time to try a complete build until now, since its the 1st one I made from a blank and I had to ask many questions related to reel seat glue, how to attach/glue grips, etc I wanted to experiment with a rod for my personal use, I could live with any mistakes on the build but Im really anal when doing a job for someone else.
good thing is that I think I have nothing to worry on this build, I really liked how to rod turned out on any detail, I used only Batson components as slickbutt, XHN guides, centra lock reel seat with window, aluminium gimbal, EPDM foregrip.
the blank is a Seeker CTSF-60XXH 6ft 60-130 tuna rod
this will be my goto rod for use it mostly on Gonzaga Bay Area on Baja north fishing for groupers and YT, it might be overkill for this zone but you dont know when I big gulf grouper or shark might bite your offering and its perfect size for Panga use and it has a nice flex on the tip, no need to monster fish to put a nice bend on this rod, I will take it to BOLA and Loreto next year (I hope).

You need to excuse the tons of pics but I feel proud on how the fishing rod ended up and want to show you most of the details, now I want to sell all my factory build rods and make me an arsenal of custom rods from spotty bay bass to sharks.
this one has a experimental "kind-of" dragon scale spiral in the 1st and 2d guide cosmetic wrap and normal dragon scales on the rest of the guides.

Dang, so many awesome decisions. I'm not a rod builder, but the aesthetics of that rod are insane. That tip guide and reel seat are epic. Awesome color scheme. So clean looking. Definitely the rod that Superman would wield.

Well, you're totally addicted now Alex. Welcome to the club.

Rod looks great. I'm not sure if it's the photos, but the JTDS's are hard for me to see. Did you use metallic thread on them?

LOL yep, thank for the welcoming, although I was addicted since the 1st restored rod job I made a year ago by checking how a fishing rod can change from a boring and beat-up wrap to a rod with more colorful, alive and with better quality components.

for the 1st and 2nd guide cosmetic "long" wrap I used dry wall tape trims, but seems that I should have wrapped the blue metallic thread more tightened to show more the dry wall spiral behing the wrap, in person is more noticiable than in pictures if you turn the rod slowly, for the rest of the guides for the rest of the guides I also used drywall tape method but wrapped the metallic thread more tight and its shows the JTDS bit more

in the next pics you can see the JTDS a little bit better

WOW, that rod is first class. GREAT WORK!!!! Nothing better than building your own. If you don't mind me asking. I would love to know where you learned how to build a rod. I am interested in building my own as well.

LOL, thanks buddy but Im still learning, on every rod I made I learn a new trick or two, I pretty much do straigh colors and few color combinations just to make the rod to stand-out from a factory made rod, what really make the rod to look good is a nice epoxy job.
even if your long cosmetic wrap is a "work of art" but do a shitty epoxy job over it, sorry but you rod will look like shit.

I learn asking guys here, guys on another forums and reading a lot on specific topics over the internet, like epoxy application, static test, single, double and tripple wrap, etc.

many of the in-house seasoned rod builders dont mind to share a trick or two if you ask them politely.

You're rockin' now Alex!! Built it, fished it, and brought home dinner! It just doesn't get any better than that.

Ha !! nice joke buddy, that fish was pure luck, its only a matter to be on the right place at the right time with the right captain and the right weather and the right rod with a right reel with a right line and a right hook.. ooh and a right and healthy bait.

the reason I posting this pics is that I still feel exited to catch a nice fish with a custom rod built by myself, 3 years ago I was still looking for a wrapper not too far from me to make me a custom rod.
