Went down the Base West Side ending part of July with a friend from Palm Springs and we got this 40# Ono on Da Ledge! I just got the Photo from him today! Any ways my Biggest of the year! I missed a couple this size prior to this trip! I had one same size just getting ready to gaff it and it came off but I got two smaller ones that day! Fishing kinda slow right now! This weekend get Napali Challenge Canoe Race! We hope wind slows down! It gets nasty Polihale to Hanalei! Aloha!

Nice one John-must've gotten some good sash and steaks from that ono. Looks like one of its pack took a bite out of its tail fin too.

    Aloha,

No when I threw it on Da Deck it went [email protected]@Kin nuts and that corner of tail snapped off! The piece was still in my boat when I was washing it down! I know what you mean though when there in packs! Last year I was reeling in a 30lb and about 15 yards behind the boat I saw as clear as day two Big Ono's ATTACK the Ono and cut it all up! I never saw that before! The two Ono's were alot Bigger than the one I was reeling in! Aloha

I'm guessing that you mean a large size Braid Marauder, yes?

One question though; Why do you need to change the hooks on it? I don't get that at all.

CRIS This is the 8" Marauder I take off the swivel and hook that came with it and put a 10/0 ss mustad 7691 hook in place! works really good! knock on wood!!!

That's all well and good, but I guess what I'm asking is why do you feel you need to change the hooks, and now the swivels too. Was there something wrong with the originals?

I don't think that has anything to do with the hooks though.

What do you set your strike drag at when trolling them?
