I'd like to know too. I been in east TX for a little over a year and I'd like to do some offshore at some point. I grew up in San Diego county and haven't fished the ocean in forever it feels like. Been stickin to crappie and catfish cuz I'm in Tyler. I'm not tryin to hijack this thread but I'd like to know of some solid outfits off of the coast of TX or LA. Thanks in advance.

Last few times I was out on DD boats they had a small live bait well (plastic drum) that we always filled with pin perch at the dock or blue runners while we were out if we were lucky. It has been a while since I've been out with them though.

Glad to see you are coming back to TEXAS!! I am hoping to go on Scat Cat 11-20-15 for weekend trip. Will send you a report regarding live bait use. Have not been on DD boats in long time so I couldn't say for them.

I've been out with both DD and Scat Cat many times. Usually use dead sardines or squid. If the flyers are out we try to net them. I like tossing topwater poppers and subsurface lures. Artificial flyers work well at times. We kill the blackfin on jigs of all types.
There are big differences in both group's boats. I've sworn off DD for now. The new boat at DD is usually an open trip. The cost seems to run off the yah-hoos.
Red Hook- I'm on the Nov Scat cat trip as well. Trip is sold out. We'll need to meet.

Been a member of this site for quite awhile. It pained me to move from my beloved San Diego, but the economy forced my hand. I absolutely love it out here in the DFW area. Best decision for my family that I ever made. But I do miss those yearly offshore trips in S.D. Especially this year. We need to ramp up the activity on the Texas forum.

I agree even on other sites the Texas guys don't seem to report much. Great way to share info makes fishing better.

I lived in the canal homes in Bayou Vista just before you go over the bridges to Galveston Island south of Houston, Texas. Several on my friends and I used to fish some of the saltwater tournaments with Captain Carl Christoph at www.txtarponfishing.com for severaal years. For my money he is one of the most knowledgeable saltwater anglers I have ever fished with in my 66 years. I fished the upper coast of Texas for over 20 years. If I can be of any help feel free to ask.

It must be somewhat rewarding to not have to pay CA those crazy income tax rates. Congrats.
