I recently upgraded the electronics on my boat and decided to go big with the fish finder to get deep water clarity for swordfish and tilefish hunting etc. I got the whole new system installed except for the giant 2KW transducer. The boat is a 08 Hydra Sports 2900 CC with twin F250 yams on it. The plan was to mount it just to the port side of the flat keel with the high speed fairing block cut to 22deg. That would make the tall side stick down about 5” so I was a little concerned. The keel is fairly flat and I thought about putting it there and had a few people recommend that I go that route. Decided to call Airmar and get their take and it wasn't good. They came back a couple days later and said the xducer was too big for this boat and recommended that I definitely do not install it with the fairing on the deadrise. Especially with twin engines. The only option they did mention was pocket mount flush in the keel. Im wondering if anyone else here has any experience with an installation simalar to this or has some additional info. I dont think returning the unit is an option and Id really like to make it work somehow. The faring block can be cut down to three-quarter inch and I was thinking about reassessing it into the keel about an inch which would leave the xducer hanging down about 3” and it wouldnt require any major glass work or huge holes in the boat. Any info is appreciated Thanks
