A couple of kayaks strapped to the bow made for a little bit crowded boat, but not so bad. Jimmy Green and Gabe wanted to fish offshore on their tupperware, and we did put Gabe over the side into the mini Xfactor where he pulled in his first yak dodo. It was a little choppy out, so Jimmy stayed in the boat.

We ended up with 6 dodos, all caught in US waters- although we ran down to the 302 for a look-see. Kelps were tough to spot in the windchop. We saw some birds working and trolled towards them outside the 9. A dodo leaped in front of the boat and we picked up a bull on a Channel Island Chovy fishtrap. We slow trolled baits around a boat called the SeaNada for a while, since they were staying on top of a nice paddy. We pulled a couple more "doritos" off that and the Sea Nada motored away when they stopped biting. That is when Gabe got in the yak and got his little dodo.

The fish were liking the 'dines yesterday. no love on the real anchovies.

Had fun, caught fish. I had my worst gaffing experience- nuff said.:imdumb:

That's Jimmy in the yellow hard hat.

On the way back in, we saw more birds working near a Sea Pro on a paddy 4 miles from the whistler buoy. We slid in and tried to stay out of their way and got a couple more small hens. One was so small that we had to send her back to mama. Thanks for letting us poach your paddy!

We sabikied up some 3 inch macks at one point, and one of the dodo ate that.

Thanks Gabe and Jimmy, for getting me out there!

    Master of the obscure reference!

As for the hard hat, you never know when a meteor might strike. Better to be prepared.

So much abuse for wearing a hat. Village people jokes are just too funny. Nothing worse then having sunscreen going into your eyes. Hard hat stays dry when a cap gets wet and stays wet for a while. Talk about getting wet from head to toe heading to the 302 (right Gabe). I was soaked but at least I was dry above the shoulders. I still feel beat up today from the CC, took a beating in that chop. :hali_blablalba:

Oh yeah your gaff shots (John) were classic, first you hit it with a great gaff shot and then bounce it off the rail and back into the water.:imdumb: Luckily the dorado is still on. He's coming around a second time pretty slowly, severally hurt and horizontal. Of course this time you knocked the hook out of the fish's mouth and he swims away.:imdumb::imdumb: I wish I had a picture.:zelfmoordProbably the biggest fish of the day lost.

Anyways, I definitely need to get a smaller yak if I am going to do that again.

Good fishing with you again Gabe, and congradulation on your first kayak Dorado and for successfully removing you line from the prop while falling headfirst into the water:idiot:. John thanks for the trip on the water, I had a great time.

It was pretty choppy. Still, I only felt my kidneys take a couple of hard hits during the 75 mile trip.

Next time, Jimmy, you gaff the fish. I felt like a total rookie.

Round trip. Outside the nine, then down to the 302, and back up the line with some zigging and zagging. I don't think I am available this Saturday.

Speaking of Mothership trips just booked my yak trip to Catalina with Ryan from Pacific adventure tours. Its $100 including lunch and drinks, fantastic price and an enthusiastic captain. There is plenty of room left. They are leaving at 5am Sunday Aug 10, fishing until 2-3 and returning at 5-6pm. Sounds like a great trip especially for the money. That's about the cost of the trip over if you were just taking the shuttle over to the Island. You can email him at [email protected] or call Ryan Peterson at (562)260-6611. So youve got the boat ride over and back , 8 hours of yak fishing, bait and lunch for $100. Best deal out there.

    Fog Ducker,
Ryan's great and his team does a nice job. Great price on the mothership trip especially with lunch. Too bad the drive from San Diego is a ways away. I wish Ryan would leave San Pedro at 4 am instead of 5, because it will probably be around 8:00 am before everyone is in the water. Good luck with your trip.
    Jimmy
