Just meter marks we slid in quietly in the mix of whales, dolphins and birds and were hooked up in a few minutes about 50' down. Then nothing after that they all dispersed...

Back in the 90s when gillnets were legal they would catch them year round off of Pt Sur

    Thanks Karl
I'm heading out to the Canyon Thursday if the fogs not to bad, me and a buddy have been planning a pacific hali trip for the last week or so but now I will definitely be bring some tuna gear as well.
Might as well spend the money on Terrafin while I'm at it.

That's amazing! I've been thinking of halibut fishing around there as well. I'd definitely drive around the bank and see if you see any birds working!

I am really stoked to see Bluefin Tuna around again, however what about the yellowtail that have been in a few pics? Those are fun to catch and good eating too! Isn't are bay too cold for yellowtail? Also, does Bluefin in our bay mean we're not going to have an Albacore year again?

    I ran yesterday.
Started at the center of the hole and went west. Followed edge and went south off Cypress where the Whales and whale watchers were.

Then went out, swung by all the buoys before making a sweep of the Hole and went in.

Trolled Rapas in mackerel and sardine patterns on FC leaders. Natural cedars on FC liters way back. Even trade a couple of feathers on short lines just for the heck of it. Shimano Flat With this talk of BT, I agree, but where would one get some other than trying to Jake some up near the harbor? atthe ready to launch at any sign of fish. Never had the opportunity.

What are you got close to 57° at one point, but mostly remained around 56 1/2 or a little less. Wells, porpoises, see lions, but no fish for us. I am a static they are around, and I will make another shot at them when I get back from San Diego. I heard those fish are moving north fast

I think he was trying to talk into his phone to post a report and didn't look at it before it was sent but I get the report, good try at least you were giving it a go!!! Jigging up some live bait would have helped for sure when you stop in a frenzy of whales and birds. Those BFT are not as easy as Albacore...I can't wait to go again! Thanks for the report.

Anyone hear of first hand reports if these fish are still around? Looking to take a run tomorrow. Wanted to take a ride down to dog bone and check around out there. The last decent shot I got on terrafin looked to have a warm clear pocket pushing up.
    cheers,
    Casey

We hooked up one on Sunday next to the Monterey M1 Bouy. It took 800' of line on the first run. I got it back under 600' but then it made a second run. This time there was no stopping it. Broke the line with maybe 100' left on the spool.
